Sessions:
Week 1 – A Family Affair
An overview of substance use disorders and the devastating consequences on loved ones. A brief look at current thinking and suggested best practices for treatment for the entire family.
Week 2 – Debunking myths that derail treatment
Common responses to substance use disorder and some counter-intuitive (but more effective) alternatives. Surprising new ways to think about treatment and why we should question our own assumptions about the next right steps.
Week 3 – Boundaries reimagined
This session offers some new perspectives on the concept of boundaries along with some very practical tips for making application of this perspective in a recovery community.
Week 4 – Detachment
Detachment as a concept can be confusing. Some families trying to “detach” end up experiencing years of frustration, exhaustion and helplessness. In this session we will focus on how to detach in ways that lead to a true spiritual gift of grace.
Week 5 – Intervention
Learn basic principles about the process of intervention, specific types of interventions (including the use of contracts) and how both families and communities can collaborate to encourage treatment.
Week 6 – Spirituality and Recovery
How can families and communities best embrace the spirituality of recovery – for themselves and on behalf of their loved ones?
