Hotlines

National Drug and Alcohol Treatment hotline 800-662-HELP (4357)

They do referrals to programs for either mental health or substance abuse issues (or both). They collect insurance information and put that into their system to find resources that match your need. If you have no insurance they will provide a state phone line to call. This is a service of SAMHSA

If you prefer to do the research yourself, go to SAMHSA Treatment Search

National Domestic Violence Hotline 800-799-SAFE (7233)

They are available 24 hours a day, they answer questions, make referrals to counselors, support groups and shelters. Calls are answered by people who are not licensed counselors but they are knowledgable about Domestic Violence and can direct you to local resources of various kinds. They always ask: “Do you want to look for ongoing help?”

National Child abuse Hotline 800-4ACHILD (224453)

This a unique group as they are trained counselors. You might have to go through a series of options before reaching a live person. This is an anonymous hotline. They do not make reports but they can give guidance and direction. They serve as short term crisis counselors and they provide resources for the caller’s local community. Their goal is to get the caller through a crisis and plugged into a community or local resources.

National Adolescent Suicide Hotline 800-SUICIDE ( 784-2433)

Provides resources, helps identify appropriate information they may need to pass on to authorities. Trained counselors
