God Knows Our Humanness
Psalms 103:13-14: “For [God] knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust” (v.14).
“Sometimes I feel so alone,” revealed the wife of a busy executive and mother of three preschoolers. “I wish my husband would spend time with the children and me. But I guess I’m just being selfish. I shouldn’t let my wants or needs get the best of me. God probably wants to teach me to be strong and forget about my selfish desires.”
Human longings for intimacy and security are not wrong. God made us with basic needs to be loved and cared for. When we are neglected or ignored by those we love and trust, we may experience feelings of abandonment and loss. Those feelings are normal and understandable. God does not blame us for our ordinary and natural emotions. They are part of being human.
God is not surprised by the intensity of our needs or desires. He remembers how we were formed and where we came from. God never shames us for being human. We need not scold ourselves for what God accepts.
Lord God, in love you created me.
You know my personality.
You know my legitimate heart’s desires,
and you don’t tell me they are wrong.
Thank you for treating me with such acceptance and lovingkindness.
Help me to accept my humanness.
